One evening I painted

"Chair and Lamp"/pastel/12x9
I'm continuing to experiment with immediate expression, intuitive color, and emotional expressiveness. Here are a few paintings done "alla prima" (all at once)--and one after the other--during the same evening on a recent trip to Mazatlan. In "Chair and Lamp" the setting sun made the billowing drapes glow. "Chair, Lamp, Sofa" was painted after the sun was lower in the sky, almost ready to disappear into the ocean. The two men depicted patiently tolerated my pleas to "hold that pose just a minute longer."
